Smokeless kitchens (Awasuka Program) – In progress
Awasuka is a cooperation program, which carries out projects and activities with different entities and organizations. From the year 2020, Petit Món collaborates in the management of donations and financing for the “Smokeless kitchens” project.
Awasuka builds Kitchens without smoke in the most remote rural areas of Nepal. The reason for this is that domestic air pollution in the most rural areas causes diseases such as stroke, ischemic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer. These lung diseases could be prevented by avoiding smoke inhalation in homes through the construction of chimneys. This is why Awasuka’s “Smokeless kitchens” program was created. Their aim is to cover 90% of the costs of a chimney by means of donations, and the remaining 10% is paid by the family.
The construction of the chimneys respects the culture of the Nepalese, improves the health of the families and also saves firewood during cooking.
